Our Hotel

Our History Defines Us
Whether you’re traveling for business, pleasure, or a combination of the two, The Redbury New York serves as the perfect
Women's Hotel
The Redbury New York originally opened as the Women’s Hotel in 1903. Designed by renowned architect Robert W. Gibson, it was the first hotel in the city exclusively for women. It was immediately popular, fully occupied with over 200 women on a waiting list. Male guests were not allowed above the ground floor.
Martha Washington
In August of 2014, the hotel was rebranded and relaunched as the Martha Washington Hotel. Its design was modernized and the new restaurant Marta, run by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, was added. Its restoration provided the hotel over 6,000 square feet of event space.
Valley of Dolls
The Redbury New York is featured in the popular American drama movie Valley of the Dolls. Anne Welles, played by Barbara Parkins, stays at the hotel after arriving in New York City for the first time. Since the film’s release in 1967, plenty has changed, but our setting is still just as iconic.
Architecture & Design
The Renaissance Revival style hotel was designed by noted architect Robert W. Gibson. Our brick and limestone building is classically designed with Palladian windows, balconettes with iron railings, and even more distinct features. On June 19, 2012 it was designated a historical landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission for its architectural and historical significance.
